chapter fifteen

Bianca was still ignoring Bonnie’s phone calls. She was not in the mood of arguing with her mother and answering her questions about why she was ignoring her. Even though Bonnie knew the reason for Bianca ignoring her calls, she would still act like she didn’t do anything to her. Bonnie loved to make Bianca feel like she was the reason for her problems. Bianca refused to allow her to dictate her day and make her feel worthless. She had another date with Fabien. They were at the movie cinema to see the movie, Black Panther. Then, afterward they were going to Red Lobster to eat and talk about the movie. Bianca was a Marvel fan and her favorite character as a child was Incredible Hulk. She was looking forward to Fabien’s company and her mother would have to wait another day to talk to her. That’s if she decides to answer her phone call which was going to be no time soon. Bianca loved her mother, but their relationship was strained. It didn’t matter that she had a degree in counseling, she couldn’t restore their relationship. She could not fix her mother and herself at the same time. It took two people to work at a relationship and lately Bianca felt like she was alone in trying to fix her and Bonnie’s relationship. She was exhausted and needed a break from the dysfunction.

Fabien had been the highlight of her life because he treated her different than any other man. He didn’t treat her better than Junior did, but he was close. He sent her white lilies to her office and she was surprised that he knew she loved white lilies. She was almost smitten by him. After her ordeal with Dr. Holden, she wasn’t going to let her guard down. Her tower was going to stand tall and wide as long as she needed it. She was tired of being duped by men who had no intention of giving her what she needed the most. That was to be loved unconditionally.

As her and Fabien were waiting in line for popcorn, she looked around the cinema. She thought she saw a familiar face in the crowd. She whispered, “That looks like Dr. William Holden.” He was walking inside the cinema with a young woman on his arms. Bianca thought to herself, she is probably a nanny. She prayed he didn’t see her standing in line because she didn’t want to entertain that foolishness. She turned around and faced the long line of people ahead of her and Fabien. Three minutes later, she heard her name being called. She pretended like she didn’t hear William calling her and started talking to Fabien.

“Hey, Bianca.” William said while tapping on Bianca’s shoulder.

Bianca ignored the tap on her shoulder. Fabien motioned her to turn around.

“I thought that was you.” William said.

“Hey, Dr. Holden. What brought you to this part of town.” Bianca said with an irritated look on her face.

“We are here to see the movie like everybody else.
